CHAPTER 3
TRAVELING
Over the past three months we have experienced many different things in Hamburg. One of them and probably one of the best ones is the possibility of getting to know new cultures. Of course or main course is Hamburg but because of the location of it we have the chance to explore the north of Europe.
Being students as we are means not always having the most expensive treats. But what we do, we enjoy! So having this opportunity, some of us decided to TRAVEL around. Use our weekends and sometimes skipping classes for the sake of having new experiences in new places with new people. Either by plain, train, car or even hitchhiking and staying at friends or maybe in a dirty hostel.
This is just a small record of our trips! With some handfull tips for those who love to be on the road. From London going east to Berlin and Krakow, then going back near Hamburg to Lübeck and Bremen just to find ourselves in Madrid and then ending on the beach in Croacia.
We are looking forward to hear your opinions

LONDON

On this trip Eva decided to visit her friend Elena. She lives actually in Cambridge but for this weekend they made a trip on the trip to London.

London is also one of the big street art cities. Artist like Bansky come from this big city.

Food in London isn´t cheap! But well nothing in London is cheap.

Subway is freaking expensive in London. Just for one way you have to pay 4.70 pounds. If you go there I highly recommend to buy the ticket for one day.

Eva visited a friend also from Spain that is studying in Cambridge. This Collage was established in 1511.
BERLIN
BERLIN

Laura went for the first time to the amazing city of Berlin. Together with Paula they visited some tourist attractions like the Brandenburger Tor.

It is so typically german to have tons of Weinachtsmärkte ( Christmas street markets). It is a perfect place to avoid the cold with some Glühwein!

Berlin is located also next to the Spree, a 400 km long river that has its origin near the Czech border. Clubs and restaurants have created artificial beaches next to it wich can be enjoyed in the sommer.

Berlin was divided from 1961 to 1989. It was constructed by the German Democratic Republic. Nowadays its almost gone but a section of it has been kept as a Street Art Gallery known as the East Side Gallery.

The Bear has become the symbol of Berlin. And in 2001 a street art project started to do sculptures of bears and placing them all around the city.

We did this trip with other friends doing also an exchange semester in Hamburg.
KRAKOW

Laura and Paula also visited Krakow. A city with a lot of history. The Vistula River is the longest river in Poland.

Krakow streets are full of enchament. But what we most enjoy of the city where the little cosy cafés.

Walking down the streets we found ourselves with amazing buildings like this one!

We also visited Auschwitz, one of the biggest concentration camps in the time of Nazism. "Arbeit macht frei" meaning "Work makes you free."

Just being outside, the buidling give a horrifying feeling.
BREMEN

We also visited Bremen which is a city in northwestern Germany.

Bremen is also a very old City. The "Altstadt" (Old Town) is surrounded by the Weser River. Having different styles, it´s architecture goes from Gothic to Art Nouveau.

The Bremen Mill was used as a Mill until 1950, today houses the Coffee Mill which we visited.

Bremen has lots of nice Coffee shops. Hidden between the medieval streets we found this cute shop.

Bremen is also full of Bronze Sculptures.

In Bremen you can find different animals sculptures, here for example some pigs going around in the city center. Tourist looove it.
LÜBECK

The Holstentor, emblem of the city.

The old part of the city is surrounded by the river. Beatiful place for a walk.

We couldnt miss Potatoes!

We visited Lübeck with others Exchange Students. We went for a walk and pass by the Cathedral which is part of Lübecks worls heritage.

MADRID
MADRID WITH EVA AND RONNIE
Eva flew back to Madrid with Ronnie to show her the city. They visit some of the most important places in Madrid.

A cheap way to fly within europe is Ryanair, but be careful, worst service ever.

Madrid is the third largest city in Europe after London and Berlin.

Traditional fashin can be seen in the city, here the Chulapos.

This photos had been taken by Ronnie Karfiol, you can visit her Flickr Galery throughout "Thanks" in our website.

The streets of Madrid are a veritable museum of outdoor sculpture.
